Kids

The other day my colleague who has 5 children shared her dilemma with me. Her oldest son who is now in Year 4 has apparently become a handful. He has started - being a boy. Lazy. Lies about submitting his homework. Doesn't do homework. Doesn't finish classwork.

And then to add fuel to that, his teacher doesn't seem to notice all that!

I decided to comfort her by saying this is the phase that almost all boys have to go through - talking of course from what I saw when I was little. My brother was all this. She is always regretful after giving her son an earful. I told her not to be - because as long as it's still okay to yell at him without him rebelling back, do it. Do it while you still can.

Once he's reached teenage years, everything we say is going to repel. Nothing we say will ever be right. And the last thing he'll do is listen to his own parents.

Why are we all like that??
